once bright green wheat fields, now ugly stubble that we will see until the spring thaw brings new life

It’s probably my fault, no really. I feel responsible. I just posted about how cousin Autumn hadn’t reared his ugly head yet and we still have beautiful tomatoes. That maybe this year we should have planted more than just cherry tomatoes, possibly the extended growing season might have yielded a variety of those heirloom tomatoes that you see on other food blogs.

the poor abused Braai you are now destined to be abandoned for many months. Don’t be mad.

Yesterday was still a very beautiful Indian summer day. 85°F/29°C and gorgeous, I was careful not to notice the few leaves falling off the big paperbark birch, the giant maple stocking up its little helicopters. You know, those little seed pods that float to the ground like little helicopters creating a carpet within a half mile radius of the tree. It is the epitome of ethnocentric behavior in order to maintain its presence in my garden as the majority.

Today it is freezing! The wind is so cold, I feel a slight roughness in the back of my throat. Thank goodness that the kind folks at PomWonderful sent me a lovely care package of their “antioxidant super power” pomegranate juice. I’ve been chugging it all morning while wearing my sheepskin lined boots. More about the POM juice later, but in the mean time do yourself a favor and get some! Antioxidant powers aside it is yummy.

Now for the new…

Passion4Eating is on the move.

I am scared to death that I have no idea what I am doing here, but I found that I needed to just jump so here I am.

Looks great Kristen! WP confuses me too, but you’ll do fine, and you’ll like it much better. My fave fall dish- anything with butternut squash. Just made a Butternut Squash Risotto that was fabulous.

My favorite fall dish is roasted butternut squash! Love how it gets all carmelized in the oven and soooo super sweet! It’s a treat that is so perfect this time of year.

Thanks Lori,
I’m jumping in and hopefully it will all work out. I think my biggest issue is in my head! Butternut Risotto sounds yummy :)

I like the move, why did you decide to do it?
We tried to go get Salmon today to cook and is was not on sale this week anywhere, darn! We will have to try next week, I bought Grouper instead.

I left you an award, see my blog!

I like the new look. It’s clean and easy to navigate.
My favorite fall dish? Most anything with pumpkin or other squashes (acorn, butternut). And lately lots of soups (I made a potato-leek soup Monday that put me in the fall mood).

I love all kinds of soup once the weather turns colder. Last night I made a cabbage, potato, and sausage soup that was amazing!

Kristen – I am getting some freshly picked plums and Cortland Apples from gals at the gym. I am looking forward to making a plum/apple crisp. Nothing says fall like warm apples and cinnamon! Another gal, Laura made homemade carmels and shared them with the class. It was phenominal – we are begging for the recipe.

Oooh.. autumn dishes would have to be hot, yummy, comfort food. I love apple crumble!! A delicious bowl of chili can never go wrong :)

The first nippy weather makes me want to bake something – apple pie, banana bread, carrot cake, notice there’s a theme here. Dessert!!!

Congrats on your move over to WP, Kristen. I am about to do the same – still tweaking my new site – it will happen very soon. And same as you: from Blogger (also took me forever to get all its quirks figured out) to WP. Your new site looks great.

Favorite autumn dish is probably something like cassoulet – lots of meat and beans. Hearty and great if it’s cold out!

19 Ninja Fanpire October 11, 2009 at 11:05 pm

Gosh, I don’t know if I could pick one. I guess I’ll just say Pumpkin pie. I like pie. I don’t cook myself, so there’s nothing in particular that I can think of that is my favorite to eat. I don’t really think we have special “autumn” food at my house. Would love to win!
