Tastier than chips and way better for you! This is the perfect party snack, for folks who aren’t skittish about eating with their fingers. Food is more fun if you can play with it!

There isn’t really a recipe for this, use your favorite aromatics to create the flavors you crave. Here I love them Asian inspired with lots of garlic, ginger and chilies.
stir fried edamame

Stir-Fried Edamame

  • 1 package frozen whole edamame [soy beans]
  • peanut oil
  • garlic, as much as you want, I generally use 3 cloves minced or sliced thin
  • one inch chunk of ginger, minced or chopped very fine
  • 1 tsp red chili flakes or to taste
  • course sea salt
  • toasted sesame seeds
  • splash of sesame oil

Steam the soy beans in a covered glass container with a tablespoon of water and a sprinkling of sea salt in the microwave for one to two minutes. Remove and drain.

Heat a wok or other heavy bottom fry pan over high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of oil to the hot wok, then quickly add the garlic, ginger, chili flakes (if using). Give the pan a quick shake and add the soy beans. Stir or toss with the aromatics and cook over high heat until soy beans get a little color. Keep things moving in the pan to prevent burning.

Sprinkle in some coarse sea salt, toss and remove from heat. Toss in some sesame seeds and a little splash of sesame oil. Move to a serving dish and enjoy with your favorite cocktail, naughty or nice.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT EAT THE POD

now that we have gone through the trouble to make the outside of the pod tasty and it has the texture of fuzzy leather I feel it might be necessary to address eating etiquette.

Take the tasty little pod in your fingers, put it in your mouth DO NOT LET GO, and using your teeth bite down close to your fingers but not on them. Pull out the pod between your teeth. What you get is the yum yums from the outside of the pod and the beans from the inside, scrumptious and very lady like I can assure you.

Yum. These look tasty. I love edamame! I think it's a fantastic idea to flavor the outsides with more than just salt. Thanks for the tip!

My edamame is starting to be close to be ready for picking in the garden. I can't freaking wait because I love edamame. Such a great flavor and so many things to do with it. Love these flavors and going to have to give this a shot!
